Aquatic Veterinary Surgeons
We are looking for two experienced aquatic veterinary surgeons to work alongside our industry-leading team in Inverness, providing field and office-based veterinary consultancy to a variety of stakeholders in the aquaculture value chain.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Site visits to aquaculture producers in the Scottish salmon and trout industries, either in a prescribing veterinary surgeon or consultant capacity
- Diagnostic sampling, biosecurity assessment, basic field epidemiology and providing strategic advice to fish farmers
- Frequent provision of training courses to farmers and health personnel
- Project-based work including retrospective review of disease or performance issues on farms, or involvement in clinical trials
Applicants must be registered as a veterinary surgeon with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) and post-graduate experience or a qualification in fish health and welfare is strongly desirable. A sound working knowledge of the modern veterinary approach (e.g. veterinary health planning) to fish or other production animal systems and of pre-clinical veterinary science and basic veterinary pathology is essential. Experience of aquatic veterinary science and salmonid/fish production would be an advantage.
